Florence South Carolina

Florence is a city in Florence County, South Carolina, best known for being the intersection of I-95 and I-20, and the eastern terminus of I-20. It serves as the county seat of Florence County and is the primary city within the Florence metropolitan area. The city lies at the heart of the historical “Pee Dee” region of South Carolina, which includes eight counties in northeastern South Carolina and parts of southeastern North Carolina. As of the 2010 census, Florence had a population of 37,056, with an estimated population of 38,228 in 2015.

Florence is one of South Carolina’s major cities. In 1965, it was named an All-American City by the National Civic League. Founded as a railroad hub, Florence became a junction for three major railroad systems: the Wilmington and Manchester, the Northeastern, and the Cheraw and Darlington. Today, Florence remains a key hub in the coastal plain region of South Carolina, known for its industry, infrastructure, and status as a regional center for business, medicine, culture, and finance.
