Eddy Winston aimed to produce a dog that retained many of the positive physical traits of its ancestors while focusing on reviving the gameness and temperament of the original Real Working Bulldogs. These included Olde English Bulldogges, American Bulldogs, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, American Bandogge Mastiffs, Catahoula Bulldogs, and Bandog Mastiffs.
The Real Winston Bulldog is a premier working bulldog. Through extensive research, Mr. Winston studied the Olde English Bulldogges and discovered Mr. David Leavitt’s breeding program, which produced the “Real Olde English Bulldogges”—a true representation of what Old English Bulldogges should be. Following in Mr. Leavitt’s footsteps, Mr. Winston developed his own unique breeding practice by crossing original game-bred American Pit Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Bullmastiffs, and English Bulldogs to create his own line of Real Olde English Bulldogges.
These American Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogges, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, American Bandogge Mastiffs, and Bandogs were bred for endurance, capable of working for two or more hours in summer heat and other demanding conditions. These remarkable animals excel in big game hunting, weight pulling, and personal protection.
Despite their strength and working ability, they are affectionate and deeply loyal to their owners. They are not naturally aggressive toward humans. Please never train your dog to be unnecessarily aggressive toward other living beings unless in self-defense.
Unlike their ancestors, today’s breed is specially developed for loyalty, temperament, strength, and a well-balanced, athletic build. We strongly support the responsible care and ethical management of working dogs.
However, many so-called breeders mix Winston, Leavitt, Johnson, Scott, Painter, and Himes bloodlines with AKC English Bulldogs and falsely sell them as purebred dogs. Buyers beware! These breeds are often misrepresented and incorrectly crossbred with modern AKC English Bulldogs while being marketed as original working breeds.
The original bulldogs should have normal, long tails, not “screwed” or docked tails. These original bulldogs are much healthier and sturdier than modern-day AKC English Bulldogs.
Unfortunately, many breeders attempt to cross modern-day English Bulldogs with other breeds, especially the Pit Bull, and market them as Olde English Bulldogges, American Bulldogs, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, Bandogs, American Bandogge Mastiffs, Working Bulldogs, or Working Mastiffs.
True breeders understand this distinction and never compromise on it.
Only breeders registered with OREBA, LBA, ARF, and NKC are recognized as the approved sources for truly authentic “Bull Baiting Dogs” and “Original Molosser Dogs.”
Important for buyers to remember: The original Winston Bulldogs, American Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogges, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, and Catahoula Bulldogs all have long tails, which are naturally suited to their bodies to maintain balance. This feature contributes to their strong, sturdy form and overall balance.
These breeds, including Winston Bulldogs, Olde English Bulldogges, American Bulldogs, Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldogs, American Bandogge Mastiffs, and Bandogs, are athletically powerful. They should exude power and fearlessness with every move. They are extremely loyal and always ready to defend their owners.
